Marking Eagles

There are four different types of Eagle watermarks in the Leicester and Arundel Codices. Representing Group A is Leicester 04, representing Group B is Leicester 03, and representing Group C is Arundel 239-240. Each Eagle is marked with 14 points. The watermark should be oriented with the Eagle facing to the right.

Point Locations:
  1. tip of lowest toe on right foot
  2. intersection of bottom middle tail feather and chain line bisecting eagle
  3. tip of lowest toe on left foot
  4. bottom tip of leftmost feather
  5. bottom tip of feather to right of leftmost feather
  6. highest point on left wing
  7. intersection of upper edge of left wing and eagle’s body
  8. intersection of midlle peak in crown atop eagle’s head and chain line bisecting eagle
  9. tip of eagle’s beak
  10. intersection of upper edge of right wing and eagle’s body
  11. upward bending point in upper edge of right wing
  12. highest point on right wing
  13. bottom tip of feather to left of rightmost feather
  14. bottom tip of rightmost feather

Other Eagle Watermarks

There are three other Eagle watermarks in the Codices, Leicester 01 and 02, and Arundel 66-67. We will show that the two Leicester’s are in Group A while Arundel 66-67 is in Group B.
